As part of activities lined up for the 2023 Calabar Festival, today, the Wife of the State Governor, Rev. Mrs. Eyoawan Bassey Otu, today flagged-off the Children Carnival from the Botanic Garden.
In her remarks, the Governor's Wife stated that Children are the future of any great nation and should be encouraged by teaching them norms and values of the society, to enable them add value to themselves as well as expose them to life's requirements.
Speaking earlier, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, affirmed that the children's Carnival is an opportunity to preach humanity, show love, compassion, kindness and be more humane in every dealings.
Dr Edu admonished all to raise a voice for humanity through the Carnival Calabar to put an end to violence, war, massacre and killings around the world and also preach peace.
Also speaking, the Chairman , Cross River State Carnival Commission, Mr Gabe Onah, lauded the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu for bringing back the Children's Carnival and ensuring a better tomorrow for them through this medium.
Onah, described the Governor's Wife as 'the sweetness' for ensuring the Children's Carnival which is one of her passions.
The Carnival troupe of seven bands which began with the Seagull band was a display of culture, folklore, education, child rights, sports, moral training, happy children and a secured future.
