The Government of Cross River State under the leadership of His Excellency Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State is set to generate Carbon Credit for national and internaional market and create thousands of jobs while increasing the state earnings and conserving her forest resource/contributing to the fight against global warming via her Carbon Credit/Climate Change Project/Initiative and therefore will be partnering with the National Council on Climate Change,NCC to achieve same.
The State Coordinator/Focal Person for the Cross River State Government Carbon Credit/Climate Change Project/Initiative Dr Prince Michael Nku Abuo,JP concluded plans for the execution of the said initiative after a meeting today,Thursday 25th January, 2023 with Dr Salisu Dahiru, the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change,NCC and Co-Chairman of the Nigeria Carbon Credit Market Activation Plan/Intergovernmental Committee and his team comprising of Mr Michael Ivenso, Director Energy, Transport and Infrastructure,
NCC at their office in Abuja.
His Excellency, Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu had in August 2023 gave approval for the execution/launch of the Carbon Credit Project as part of the initiative to launch her Voluntary Carbon Credit Market before His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in December 2023 set up the Nigeria Carbon Market Activation Plan which is Co-Chaired by the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change,NCC-Dr Salisu.
