In a bold show of solidarity and political alignment, the Etung Women in Politics group, weekend, paid a courtesy visit to the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, at his country home in Bendeghe Ekiem, Etung Local Government Area. The visit was aimed at commending the transformational strides of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration and formally endorsing him for a second term in office.
Led by their president, Hon. Mary Eba, who also serves as Special Assistant on Women Affairs to the Chairman of Etung LGA, the group expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s inclusive governance style, particularly the strategic appointments of key officials from Etung — most notably the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner for Health.
Hon. Eba described the Otu-led administration as responsive, people-centered, and historically fair to Etung in terms of political recognition and development. She applauded the Commissioner for his exemplary performance in the health sector and called for sustained support in mainstreaming women in the political and governance space.
She further appealed for the inclusion of more Etung women in future appointments, empowerment schemes, and electoral opportunities. According to her, it is critical that women are not only supported to participate in politics but are also given unconditional access to contest in future elections.
A major highlight of the visit was the official conferment of patronship on Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk by the group and their unanimous endorsement of Governor Bassey Otu—popularly referred to as Sweet Prince—for re-election in 2027. The women pledged their full loyalty and mobilization strength to ensure victory for Governor Otu’s second term bid.
In his response, Dr. Ayuk, expressed deep gratitude for the honor bestowed on him. He commended the women for their political awareness, unity of purpose, and unwavering support for Governor Otu’s administration.
“I am sincerely humbled by your gesture and proud to be associated with a vibrant and visionary group such as yours. You are the first organized group from Etung to pay me a courtesy visit since my appointment, and I consider it a great honor to be conferred as your patron,” Dr. Ayuk stated.
The Commissioner further assured the women of his continued partnership and full support in advancing their aspirations, both within the political space and in socio-economic development. He affirmed his commitment to advocating for women inclusion at all levels of government and pledged to champion their cause within the corridors of power.
