Agnes Atsu in Calabar.The Super Eagles Striker who is in Calabar with his family to spend the holiday was accompanied by his father Barr. Leo Moffi, and brother Korishor Moffi, stated that he deemed it necessary to embark on the visit to the State as a place where he started his football career, adding that as a young player who then was playing for YSFON ACADEMY and Diamond Stars football club, he lived in the Calabar Stadium hostel and did his trainings at the Calabar stadium which propelled him to attain his height of success in his football career. He thanked the Commissioner and staff of the ministry for the warm reception they offered him with promising to partner with the ministry to further improve sporting activities in the state.The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, on behalf of the Governor, welcomed the Cross River born Soccer Star to her office. She applauded his father Barr. Leo Moffi who played for Enugu Rangers and Calabar Rovers football clubs for his outstanding contributions to football development in the State, especially with nurturing his son to continue in his career of playing football, and today is making Cross River State proud; even as he is now a global soccer striker per Terem Moffi. She thanked Terem Moffi for remembering to come and visit the premises where he started his career as it is a honour done to the Ministry, the Government and the State, further applauded him for thinking in the right direction of developing sporting activities in his indigenous home, Cross River State. The commissioner admonished the Super Eagles Striker who is now a football ambassador of the state, to continue in his efforts of making Cross River proud. She maintained that Terem Moffi and other Cross River indigenous athletes who are making the State proud will be honoured by Governor Bassey otu in a grand reception at the Government House, as the Governor who has a People's First Mantra is kin about developing football as one of the sporting activities that can empower young people and also unify the people, which is why he is collaborating with other sporting organizations to improve sporting activities in the state. She disclosed Governor's agenda of extending sporting activities to other parts of the state with the building and equipping of a world class stadium at Ogoja that will meet the standard of hosting football tournaments and other sports competitions.The special adviser to the Governor on sports development, Hon.Ekanem Ekpenyong expressed delight on having the Super Eagles star visit the ministry, stated that the commissioner who is proactive in the development of sporting activities in the state, and other officers of the commission are happy to have Terem Moffi visit Cross River again with passion to promote sports in the state. He enumerated the challenges that the state is faced with when it concerns sports and the upcoming clubs, charged Terem to also embrace the responsibility of giving support to football clubs in the state while developing young football players. He also applauded the Governor Sen(Prince) Bassey Otu for the unflinching support he has been giving to the commission for the development of sporting activities in the state.Terem Moffi magnanimously donated the sum of One Million (1,000,000) naira and twenty five football to the Pelican Stars football club as well as; 25 footballs to Rovers FC, replica Jersey of his club to the commissioner and permanent secretary of the ministry.Those present at the event were, The Honourable Commissioner for sports development- Hon.Agnes Atsu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on sports development- Hon. Pius Ankpo recently disclosed that Governor Otu's administration is dedicated to building infrastructure that will endure the test of time and in adherent to global best practices.The Commissioner made this disclosure during commissioning of several road projects embarked by the Governor Bassey Otu in Calabar Metropolis as part of activities to commemorate the administration's one-year in office.According to Hon Ankpo, during the commissioning of Parliamentary extension Road, "Parliament Road was only 7.3 meters wide and was built without considering the rapid development and heavy traffic the area has experienced recently."I believe the government of Donald Duke did not foresee the sporadic development and traffic that we are experiencing today, as the road resembles more of a community road but today, history is made. Apart from the fact that the road is 7.3 meters wide like I said, the width was insufficient considering the heavy traffic and spontaneous development in the area. "His Excellency, the Governor, requested that it be expanded to 12.3 meters in line with current realities and with our resolved to build for the future in adherent to global best practices," Ankpo said.He reminded the community that the Governor had during his campaign promised them sophisticated infrastructure and they should expect nothing less than what they just witnessed with complete furniture."Our Governor is intentional in everything he does, and the standard of the reconstructed road is at par with what we see in Abuja, Lagos, and other Western countries. "It is akin to a superhighway, a sight to behold, especially at night due to the street lights recently installed on this stretch of the road."Instead of following the conventional approach to development, which allows for consistent patterns, the Government opted for a scientific method that allows for improvements on previous designs. "Similar development projects are currently underway simultaneously across the three senatorial districts of the state and will all be delivered as stipulated.In his testimonial, Mrs. Asim Okon, a resident of Kasuk, Parliament Extension Road and Martin Ofem of Esuk Utan communities respectively, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Otu for the gesture of an access roads which they noted controls the socio-economic lives of the comunities . "Due to the inaccessibility of the road, especially during the rainy season, some residents who depend on the local market to feed their families have relocated. However, with the new roads and street lights, business activities in these communities have increased," Ofem added.The first phase of the commissioned Parliamentary Road, with solar-powered street lights, is 12.3 meters wide and spans a distance of 3.4 kilometers. The Esuk Utan road covers a distance of 2.1 kilometers also with street lights.The Commissioner was accompanied to the commissioning ceremonies which was performed by Governor Bassey Otu by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Prof. Godwin Akeke, Director of Civil Engineering Dr. Desmond Ewa, and other top management staff

Chaired by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Chief Ewa Robert Abubakar and witnessed by other heads of MDAs in the tourism cluster along with other esteemed representative from Sterling Bank Consortium, the event concretise the over 3 months discussion the State initiated with the Consortium.Speaking during the brief ceremony, The Commissioner for Tourism, Art &amp; Culture Chief Ewa Robert Abubakar lauded Governor Bassey Otu for the bold initiative to digitalize the sector, describing the event as memorable and answered prayers under People's first mantra in the season of sweetness.He explained that the exercise would contribute significantly to the growth and anticipated development in the tourism sector that would in turn boost the State's Gross Domestic Product.According to him, "we are moving beyond dancing and Cross River State is blessed with natural ambience and potentials which are yet to be tapped. This partnership deal with the Consortium will drive the process that will increase the tourism traffic and the financial benefits that will come from it activities would be humongous," he addedWhile presenting the project overview Dr Henry Oyemachi Chairman/CEO ICT Health Solutions Limited, stated that prior to the inauguration, Governor Otu had expressed interest in making his governance to be close to the people and that was why they brought the digitalization of the processes. "He wanted the activities of the MDAs to be felt by all through technology which will cut across all MDAs," he added.He applauded the Commissioner for taking the lead to adopt and to run with the Governor's vision and Mandate concerning digitalization as well as becoming the beacon for others to follow.Mr Henry revealed that a digital platform that will enable all citizens of Cross River State to assess all government services beginning with the Ministry of Tourism where people can explore the rich tourism heritage and potentials of the State will soon be up in the web.Speaking further Chief Godwin Iyaola, the team lead of the Consortium, posited that any patriotic citizen that he is, owes the state a duty to play a role towards its advancement to become a greater place especially with a Governor who is passionate about human developing.He pledges his total commitment to ensure that the project works in the Ministry and solicits that all hands on deck to make it work so as to serve as reference points to other MDAs.Also Speaking the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Eme Affiah who presented the Modus of Operations to the partner, commended the effort of the Consortium for the collaboration, revealing that the Ministry was set and well equipped to make the tourism development initiative work.
