Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Rev. Eyoawan Bassey Otu, has donated scholarly materials as part her on going statewide Non-governmental organization’s back-to-school initiative to students of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Calabar, as they mark 50th anniversary.
Mrs Otu made the donations during a well attended reunion and anniversary ceremony of the all girls college held at the school compound, along Good luck Ebelle Johnathan Bypass, in Calabar, Tuesday.
In her remarks, Rev. Eyoanwan, who was represented by the Special Adviser, Programmes, Projects and Events, Dr Inyang Asibong, urged the students to emulate their alumni community, whom she noted are constantly raising the bar in alma mater activities.
She maintained that the alumni’s success was a testament to the quality of education that Federal Government Girls’ College provides and praised the alumnus for their valuable contribution to their alma mater over the years.
Drawing the trajectory, Dr Asibong explained that, “The school was established in 1973 with the goal of providing quality education to girls across the state as well as promote inclusivity. Over the years, FGGC has produced a number of successful alumni, including doctors, lawyers, engineers, top government functionaries, and entrepreneurs.”
The donation from the Governor’s wife is part of the 5,000 – unit back to school kits distributed to Basic Education schools across the State and is a welcome boost to the school, as it will help to ensure that students continue to receive the best possible education.
The commitment my Mrs Otu’s NGO to FGGC is an example of her dedication to improving the lives of women and girls in Cross River State. Without a doubt, her kind gesture will help to ensure that FGGC continues to be a beacon of hope and an opportunity for posterity.
