Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, has restored electricity to Bekwarra Local Government Area after 15 years of outer darkness.
The project carried out under the supervision of the State Electrification Agency (SEA), is in fulfillment of the campaign promises to the people of Bekwarra.
In an interview shortly after inspection of the ongoing project, the Director General, State Electrification Agency, Mr. Francis Ekpo expressed satisfaction for the completion of the project.
He commended Governor Otu for his leadership style and urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by ensuring it protection and safety.
The Director General stated that success belongs to the residents, he admonished them especially the youths to take responsibility for the safety of the infrastructure, adding that negligence or vandalism could cause setback.
"Governance is a shared responsibility, the government through the able leadership of the People First Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu has done its part in the restoration of power after 15 years of total darkness.
"We have to complement government's effort by ensuring the protection and safety of this facilities" the DG emphasized.
Mr. Ekpo later met with the Chairman of Bekwarra , Hon. Theresa Ushie, and Councilors to emphasize the importance of protecting the facilities.
He assured that no part of Bekwarra will be left unattended to stating that they would soon enjoy uninterrupted electricity because Governor Otu remain committed in ameliorating the plights of the citizenry.
The manager, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED), Engr. Innocent Inaku applauded the Governor for his decisive action in restoring power to the area.
He pledged the Company’s commitment to energize all transformers to ensure stable power supply in the Area.
Mr. Joseph Achu, a resident of Bekwarra expressed gratitude to the Governor for the prompt intervention. He described the power restoration as timely adding that it will add colour and glamour to the yuletide while pledging security of the infrastructure within his vicinity.
