As part of efforts geared towards modernizing teaching and learning at basic education level,the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Commission in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board has kicked-off a 5 day teachers internship training scheme to equip teachers with the requisite technical and technological skills to boost academic at the newly innovative Smart Schools in Cross River.
Declaring the event open,the Acting Executive Chairman Of State Universal Basic Education Board,Mr Inyang Eyo Etta, urged those selected for the teachers internships scheme to take the training seriously to achieve government objectives for which the programme was intended for.
He disclosed that those selected for the teacher Internship Training were privileged, out of many, adding that the strategy was to introduce new concepts that will enhance teaching and learning in SUBEB Smart Schools.
Mr Etta, charged participants to see their humble beginning as a stepping stone to greater achievement and avoid distractions during the course of the internship programme.
The Acting Executive Chairman, reminded the teachers that , their performance at various places of responsibility will have them recommended for a permanent job.
He explained that the training is a deviation from what used to be in the classroom between teacher and learner hence , SUBEB is adopting new innovations through technology to take education to the next level , adding that the Smart Schools are in partnership with the Korean Government to actualize the dream.
Speaking earlier, the Facilitator , UBEC, Teacher Intenship Scheme , Dr Michael O. Ajileye, identified attitude on the part of participants to the success or failure of government programme and project and advised the Teachers not to undermine the opportunity granted them, rather exert effort and determination towards achieving it success .
Dr Ajileye thanked UBEC and SUBEB for their concern in uplifting the standard of Education through training of teachers and reiterates his organization's determination to make a difference in the learning process in the state.
The Representative of UBEC , Mrs. Gloria Lawani, Director, Quality Assurance SUBEB, Mrs Regina Ogbudu and the Director Academic, SUBEB, Mrs Caroline Nyong all expressed commitment in facilitating government's programmes at the Basic Education Level.
