The Cross River State government is set to flag off a skill acquisition programme known as Skills in the Hands Initiative in the state. The initiative aims to provide youths with training on basic skills in various enterprises, promoting wealth creation.
Bar. Ijom, the Commissioner for Youth Development, disclosed this during an inspection tour of companies and facilities hosting the training. The commissioner expressed readiness of the facilities to train benefiting youths in the areas of electronic electricals.
"We are here to formally inspect the facility in preparation for the technical collaboration we've signed with Sky Run tagged 'Skills in the Hands'. In a few days time, we will have youths from Cross River State come into the facility to spend six months in intensive training in electrical electronics, and this will be replicated in all other companies resident here at the Export Processing Zone Authority,"
"The flag off is scheduled for Monday, and the training will begin immediately at Sky Run. While discussions with other companies in the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA) for future collaborations are ongoing".
"This is going to be the first of its kind. It is one of the key policy thrusts of youth development because we are very intentional about empowering the youths of Cross River State," the commissioner added.
"We hope that this collaboration with Sky Run and other companies will take youth empowerment and skill acquisition to a new level in Cross River State," he said.
Barr. Ijom expressed gratitude to the governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, for creating the opportunity to empower the youths in the state.
