Still celebrating the peculiarity of women as natural leaders, the Wife of the State Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu has distributed palliative materials to widows in the State.
Speaking during the distribution of the palliatives, the Governor's wife stated that widows are the epicenter of the present administration and they are highly esteemed.
The Governor's wife who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Edema Erom noted that women are an embodiment of leadership giving their multitasking abilities and the management of their homes, adding that without the women there is no society.
She assured the widows that whatever their endeavours are, they will be accommodated as the need arises, to give them a sense of belonging, urging them to encourage build and themselves in anticipation of opportunities.
Speaking earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator of the Divine and Resilient Widows Association, Mrs. Uduak Spencer Efem appreciated the Governor's wife for the show of concern to the welfare of widows across the State during the 2024 International Women's Day celebration.
According to her, the Divine and Resilient Widows Association is an amalgamation of all widow groups in the State to have a unified front to push for a common goal across the 36 States of the federation.
She explained that the Governor's wife nade available 100 bags of rice, 100 pieces of wrappers, beans and monetary gifts for those widows who were part of the 2024 IWD celebration.
Mrs. Efem charged the widows to support the policies of the present administration and come out whenever there is a need for women to gather, adding that it is indeed a season of sweetness for all Cross Riverians.
Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, Rev. Theresa Godwin expressed the appreciation of Akmkpa widows who were touched by the magnanimity of the Governor's wife. In the same vein, Mrs. Chigozie Bassey described the Governor's wife as a woman with a heart of gold, who has made widows across the State to have a taste of the season of Sweet. The women took turns praying for God's blessings and protection on the first family.
In an interview, a military widow, Mrs. Rosemary Onono Ita described as noble the gesture of remembering widows, stating that the thoughts of reaching widows by the Governor's wife has made them feel loved, wanted and that they belong to a family.
