The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has lauded the tremendous sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces in peace keeping within and outside the country.
The Governor gave the commendation shortly after the Juma’at prayer held at the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Mosques, Akim Barracks, as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Week Celebration in Calabar, Friday.
Otu who was represented at the service by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, stressed that the foundation of the country is laid on the blood of the Nigerian soldiers who were ready to sacrifice their lives while serving the country as without them, the survival of the country would have been impossible.
He recalled the significance roles played by the Armed Forces during the civil war as well as other peace keeping operations within and outside the country especially current war against terrorism and expressed deep appreciation to the Armed Forces.
“We appreciation the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the men and women who are in the forest and deserts fighting to maintain the peace we enjoyed daily. I dare to say that without them, there will be no peace. We cannot appreciate them enough but let me assure you that we will not relent on our part in supporting you, together, we shall build a better Nigeria for us all”.
In his remarks while fielding questions to news men after the service, the Chief Imam, 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Mosque, Lt. Mubarak Abubakar Mustapher, stressed the need for Nigerians to be at peace with one another irrespective of their tribes or religion.
He used the occasion to appeal to the Federal Government for continuous assistance to families of the fallen heroes so as to give them a sense of belonging.
Present at the Juma’at service were some members of the State Executive Council, Service Commanders as well as other eminent Cross Riverians.
