The Commissioner for Youths Development, Barr. Odum-Ijom Ukam Monday played host to youths under aegis of the National Youths Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, on a thank you visit to his office in Calabar.
Barr. Ijom Ukam informed the body executive of the government's effort through his Ministry to redirect youths to viable endeavors thereby making them useful to the society.
He noted that his appointment as youths' Commissioner by Governor Bassey Otu afforded him the opportunity of operating in his tuff, saying that it was a testament to the fact that the administration is poised to putting square pegs in square holes.
The commissioner advised the youths to be good ambassadors of the state anywhere they find themselves as well as desist from social vices that may hamper their sociopolitical and socioeconomic well-being.
He informed them that the government has so much to offer the youths in the State and urged them to be patient as the programmes will soon be unveil for them to key in.
President, Youths Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter led by Comrade Obo commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for appointing Barr. Ukam as the Youths development Commissioner and described his appointment as one of the best choices made by the Governor.
Comrade Obo averred that the entrance of Barr. Odum-Ijom Ukam has completely changed the narrative and the misnomer associated with the Youths Ministry in the past, asserting that the commissioner is now redirecting the youth-vehicle towards endearing and prosperous paths.
Lauded Governor Otu's policy thrust of the People's First mantra with the introduction of safety net intervention programme that pays a monthly stipend of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) to over Two Thousand poor and vulnerable youths and households across the Eighteen (18) Local Government Areas of the state to ameliorating poverty.
He also applauded the commissioner and the Ministry for creating the partnership with the Youths council to host the maiden Agricultural Youths Summit with the theme: Back To Land and several other youth-friendly activities such as identifying, profiling and branding of deserving youths as motivational ambassadors in the youths ministry in just a couple of months in office.
