… DG Attributes Feat to Governor Otu’s Leadership
By Kingsley Agim
Cross River State has emerged as the top-performing state in routine immunization coverage across Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to child welfare, public health, and a healthier future for all.
This recognition follows the release of the 2023–2024 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) report, which highlights Cross River’s exceptional performance in immunization coverage, surpassing all other states, including Lagos, Delta, Edo, and the FCT. The state achieved an impressive 95% coverage rate, setting a national benchmark.
The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (CRSPHCDA), Dr. Vivien Mesembe Otu, attributed this remarkable achievement to the proactive leadership and strategic health policies of Governor, Apostle Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and the unwavering support of the First Lady, Bishop (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu.
According to Dr. Otu, the administration’s significant investments in healthcare, including the procurement of vaccines, expansion of immunization programs, and targeted outreach efforts, have played a critical role in ensuring that no child is left unvaccinated in both urban and remote communities.
Dr. Otu also commended the tireless efforts of Healthcare workers across the state, Local government health teams, Development partners, Community-based organizations, Traditional and religious leaders, among others.
She acknowledged their unwavering dedication to improving immunization services and strengthening primary healthcare delivery at all levels.
With this milestone, Cross River State has set a new standard for routine immunization in Nigeria, serving as a model for other states.
“This is not just a victory for Cross River State,” Dr. Otu remarked. “It is a victory for public health across Nigeria.”
Governor Otu’s administration has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding immunization outreach, ensuring vaccine availability, and sustaining the state’s leadership in public health initiatives.
