In a significant move to enhance maritime security, Abitto Global Services, a leading water transport company, has donated a patrol boat and other essential equipment to the Nigerian Navy. The donation aims to bolster naval patrols and security operations along the waterways of Cross River State.

The official handover ceremony took place on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Abitto Jetty, Marina Resort, Calabar.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Richard Akinaka, the MD/CEO of Abitto Global Services, described the donation as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and a demonstration of its commitment to maritime security.

“We are here to donate one of our newly designed swamp boats, and other components, to the Navy as a sign of our commitment, respect, and cooperation in ensuring safer waterways for travel,” Akinaka stated.

He emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration in strengthening maritime security, noting that his company is dedicated to fostering partnerships that will enhance water transportation and economic activities between Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Receiving the patrol boat on behalf of the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Ajomabi Oride, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory, lauded the donation as a significant boost to the Navy’s operations.

“The Nigerian Navy’s primary role is to protect the nation’s maritime interests and its citizens. NNS Victory is responsible for securing the Calabar Channel and adjoining creeks. Since Abitto operates within this area, they have deemed it necessary to assist the Navy in its security efforts by providing this boat,” he stated.

Commodore Oride further expressed gratitude on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, urging other companies operating in the region to emulate Abitto’s example by supporting the Navy’s security initiatives.

“We appreciate this wonderful gesture. I use this opportunity to call on other companies operating in this area to support the Nigerian Navy in enhancing security, ensuring safer waters for all,” he concluded.

The donation highlights the growing recognition of public-private partnerships as a critical component in maritime security and economic growth. By equipping the Navy with advanced patrol resources, Abitto Global Services is playing a key role in safeguarding Nigeria’s waterways, protecting commerce, and fostering regional stability.

The well attended event drew dignitaries from government circles, maritime sector and the business community.
