In commemoration of Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, has issued a powerful goodwill message, commending national and state leaders for their unwavering commitment to democratic governance and people-centered development.
In a statement issued from Calabar, Barr. Agbor congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, for what he described as “astute and resolute leadership” in steering the country’s democratic journey toward renewed national hope and prosperity. He also praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, CON, for his legislative direction and his role in sustaining Nigeria’s democratic architecture.
“This day is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to secure our freedom and the enduring strength of our collective will as a nation,” the statement noted. “It is a moment to reflect on our journey, celebrate our progress, and reaffirm our commitment to the democratic ideals that bind us.”
Barr. Agbor acknowledged bold federal-level initiatives aimed at economic revitalization, national security, and social inclusion, describing them as “palpable indicators of a maturing democracy — one increasingly responsive to the needs and aspirations of its citizens.”
Bringing the message closer to home, he celebrated the remarkable strides made under the leadership of Governor Bassey Edet Otu, whose “People-First” agenda has redefined governance in Cross River State. According to Barr. Agbor, the Governor’s vision has led to measurable transformation across sectors — from infrastructure and education to agriculture, youth development, and healthcare.
“These are not mere policies; they are tangible, people-driven interventions improving lives across the length and breadth of our state,” he said. “Under Governor Otu, the dividends of democracy are not abstract concepts — they are visible, felt, and appreciated daily by Cross Riverians.”
He also commended Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem for their synergy with the executive and their commitment to stability, accountability, and good governance, which have created an enabling environment for progress.
Highlighting the role of his office, Barr. Agbor said that democracy must extend beyond policy to the responsible management and recovery of public assets, ensuring that resources serve the common good. “It is through this democratic framework that the voices of every Cross Riverian — from the bustling markets of Calabar to the serene villages of the northern senatorial district — are heard and addressed in the policies we implement and the assets we protect,” he stated.
The statement concluded with a rousing call for continued service, inclusion, and democratic consolidation. “To our esteemed leaders, both at the national and state levels, I wish continued strength, profound wisdom, and divine grace as you tirelessly work to lay a solid foundation for democratic prosperity for generations to come,” Barr. Agbor said.
“May democracy flourish, may our people thrive, and may Cross River State continue to be a shining example of people-centered governance and progressive development.”
