The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, as Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Council Chairman commended both leaders for their dedication to democratic governance and national development.
"President Tinubu has demonstrated remarkable courage in driving national reforms, equity, and justice," the Chairman stated. "This Democracy Day offers us an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of our heroes past while reaffirming our commitment to a stronger Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda."
He praised Tinubu’s role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, extending back to his days with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).
He also lauded Governor Otu for his impactful governance and grassroots development initiatives in Cross River State.
"Governor Otu’s People-First agenda has brought tangible development to communities across our state, including Obudu," he remarked. "His inclusive leadership and transformative projects are deepening democracy at the grassroots and improving the socioeconomic status of residents in the state."
Reflecting on 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, the Council Chairman urged citizens to prioritize unity and peaceful coexistence.
"Democracy goes beyond elections, it demands accountability, dialogue, and service," he emphasized. "Together, leaders and citizens must uphold democratic ideals to ensure sustainable development."
Aligning with this year’s Democracy Day theme, "Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms," Hon. Undiandeye called for sustained collaboration among all tiers of government.
"This occasion serves as a reminder to reinforce the reforms our democracy requires. We urge leaders and citizens alike to maintain this progressive momentum for national advancement," he emphasized.
Highlighting the essence of civic responsibility, the Chairman noted: "Democracy transcends elections, it thrives on accountability, active participation, and selfless service. Let us honor our democratic heroes by rededicating ourselves to good governance."
Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999, Hon. Undiandeye expressed optimism about the future: "With President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, Governor Bassey Otu, and Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey at the helm at the Federal and State level, I am confident that Obudu, Cross River, and Nigeria as a whole will continue to prosper under a united and enduring democracy."
The Chairman urged Obudu citizens to remain steadfast in supporting democratic ideals for a brighter future for the overall interest of Nigerians.
